Employee Engagement, The Hertzberg Theory, And...

Introduction Integration defines our fundamental beliefs about the subject at hand and the practices toward all of the reality. Through taking this introduction course, I have become more aware of how various aspect of the work environment intertwines with an individual’s personal life. The topics that were the most intriguing were employee engagement, the Hertzberg theory, and organizational culture. As a working individual, these three concepts are factors I deal with on a daily basis. This class has shaped my mindset that we are all capable of making a difference within our workplace. Employee Engagement This course emphasized the concept of employee engagement in the workplace. Employee engagement is critical for many reasons, it is necessary to understand and help organizations lower employee turnover, increase revenue, and help managers communicate more efficiently. There are differences between employees who are actively engaged and disengaged in the workplace. Within active engagement, it is more likely that an employee is confident, valued, and inspired within the organization. They understand their personal worth in the group. The quote by Maya Angelou resonated with me, â€Å"People will forget what you said, what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel†. This quote speaks true to all aspects of life, not just in the workplace. When we treat people with their God-given significance, it can motivate them to work and live better. Article, Critical Literacy in the Classroom by Ann S. Beck...

The article â€Å"Critical Literacy in the Classroom† (2005), was written by Ann S. Beck, an English teacher at Camosun College in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. This article explains that it is imperative for teachers to understand the concepts of critical literacy as well as to achieve a critical teaching approach. The author’s main focus was to address and define the importance of teaching critical literacy as an educational practice by approaching dialogue (social act), reflection (critical literacy), and textual critique in the classroom. In brief, these concepts are of main importance to be use in the classroom for students to become active participants in their own meaning-making experiences and to change the way we think about†¦show more content†¦In the Critical Literacy approach, it is crucial for teachers to encourage reflection through open-ended questions were students specifically follow on the relationship between their own experiences and u nderstandings of texts. Furthermore, it is critical for teachers to not guide students toward a traditional interpretation or to influence students to adopt her/ his personal viewpoints because multiple interpretations of any text exist, and no one interpretation represents all viewpoints. In the Textual Critique approach, the teacher encourages the students to examine specific author’s words in a context, and to think about how language can serve different interest. The Human resource professionals are strategic partners to an organization. The most important functions performed by the human resource department are that they hire human resources for an organization. The recruitment of the employees and further retaining them is also one of the most difficult tasks that HR professionals perform (Berman et al. 2016). According to Peter Cappelli (2015) it is very important that the hr managers set an agenda they are required to show the reason why the issues addressed within an organization are important and what are the measures to solve those problems. He further says that doing what the CEO might not be always useful, because the CEOs are chief operating officers and they do not know about the workplace of the organization (Capelli 2015). Therefore, it is the duty of the hr managers to provide insight in this regard. On the other hand the hr professionals are expected to think beyond their functional goals and objectives and thinks strategically for which they need the support of CEO, both CEO and hr professionals are required to share their knowledge and information to work in coordination so that organizational goal can be achieved. An Argument for the Legalization of Drugs. Based on John Stuart Mills Revised Harm Principle

An Argument for the Legalization of Drugs. Based on John Stuart Mills Revised Harm Principle The question of whether or not to legalize certain drugs has been debated for decades. Although opponents have thus far been successful in preventing this, there are nonetheless a substantial number of people who believe that legalization should be given a chance. Their arguments range from the seeming ineffectiveness of current drug laws to the simple premise that the government has no right to prohibit its citizens from using drugs if they choose to do so. This essay will address the issue from the standpoint of John Stuart Mills' 'Revised Harm Principle",' which asserts that people should be free to do what they want unless they threaten the vital interests (i.e., security or autonomy) of others.Using Mills' principle as a litmus test for this issue leads one to come down on the side of legalization. Since Mills is concerned not with individual rights, but with the consequences of one's actions on other people, the question becomes: Is drug use an action that, although performed b y an individual, threatens the vital interests of others? Using the example of a casual, responsible drug user who is a contributing (or non-detracting) member of society, it is clear that more harm is done to others if the user must resort to illegal methods to obtain his drugs.English: Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (May 31, 2005) &ndas...The very act of buying drugs is intrinsically illegal and carries the threat of establishing a criminal record for the buyer. This can have a devastating effect on his family, his lifestyle, and his career. The effects on society as a whole include more crowded jail cells (prompting politicians to demand more jails be built), higher taxes to support these jails, and the loss, or at least diminution, of a productive citizen. In order to buy drugs illegally, the user may be forced to...
